At present, he is Research Supervisor at UPC. His research activities have been mainly focused on the area of robotized assembly, especially in the field of fine motion planning in the presence of uncertainty, and more recently in the field of robotized grasping and manipulation. He has participated in several research projects on these topics. He has obtained, at international events, the Best Paper Award in the IEEE International Symposium on Assembly and Task Planning, Pittsburgh, USA, in 1995, the Best Reviewer Award in the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), Seattle, USA, in 2015, the Best Paper Award in the IEEE 20th International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), Luxembourg, in 2015, and was finalist for the Best Application Paper Award in the IEEE Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), Madrid, Spain, in 2018; and at national events the Award to the Best Work in Robotics at the XXIV, XXXIV and XXXVIII Jornadas de Automática in 2003, 2013 and 2017 respectively. Dr. Suárez has been Deputy Director of the Institute of Industrial and Control Engineering (IOC) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia from 2003 to 2009, and Director of IOC from 2009 to 2016 (re-elected in 2012). His main research areas include grasping and dexterous manipulation, intelligent robotic systems, multi-robot manipulation and control, skill acquisition, and planning and learning techniques in robotics.
